#1 Nova Routes #10 Xavier at Home
Tonight featured two top ten teams facing off in Philadelphia, PA as the #1 Villanova Wildcats defeated #10 Xavier 89-65. Xavier has now loss back to back games after losing to Providence previously. Villanova gets its second win in a row after losing to Butler.
Phil Booth started off the scoring for the night by hitting a 3 and the Wildcats never looked back. Booth hit three 3s in the first half and was the assist man on the alley oop to Eric Paschal to bring the first half lead to 22-9 and got the home crowd on its feet. J.P. Macura and Trevon Bluiett struggled again in this game going only 3-11 from the floor in the first half. By the end of the first half the Wildcats had a 12 points lead 40-28.
The second half was much of the same with Villanova dominating Xavier in all aspects. Xavier would only be able to cut it to 10 early in the second half before Villanova would go up by as many as 28. Bluiett and Macura again struggled in the second half. Kerem Kanter was a presence inside for Xavier scoring a team high 16 points.
Villanova has not played great defense as of late but held Xavier to 17.6% shooting from deep and only 41.4% from the field. The Wildcats shot 55.2% from the field and 38.7% from three.
For Villanova Phil Booth had a team high of 21 including five 3s. Jalen Brunson also had 17. For Xavier freshman Naji Marshall scored 13 getting valuable minutes and again Kanter lead the way with 16 points.
Next up #1 Villanova 15-1 (3-1) goes to Madison Square Garden Saturday to take on St. Johns 10-7 (0-5). For #10 Xavier 15-3 (3-2) they are at home Saturday against #25 Creighton 14-3 (4-1).
