Wildcats Get Back to Business Taking Down Xavier

After losing 2 out of their last 3 and with one of the most anticipated match ups of the season in all of college basketball, Villanova went on the road and handled Xavier defeating them 95-79.  You could say this was for Big East bragging rights and Villanova proved once again why they continue to be the top dog in the Big East.

In the first half the Wildcats went 11 of 19 from deep after going just 17-71 from three in their previous 3 games.  Ultimately they finished 16 of 34 from three.  Mikal Bridges had the hot hand in the first half scoring 16 points and going 4 of 5 from three.  J.P. Macura had a solid first half going 2 of 3 from three scoring 10 first half points.  The Wildcats got into foul trouble in the first half with 4 players picking up 2 fouls.  This causing Xavier to go to the free throw line often going 10 for 10 in the first half.  Villanova lead by as many as 19 before going into half time up 14.

Xavier came out with a purpose in the second half especially Trevon Bluiett who scored 18 points in the second half keeping Xavier in it.  A big second half by Donte DiVincenzo kept Villanova ahead the whole second half.  Xavier did cut it to 3 multiple times though as they went 19-22 for the game from the free throw line which kept them in it.

Overall it never felt like a blow out and Villanova fans never felt safe.  If these two meet in the Big East Tournament it should be just as entertaining as last night.

Next up the Wildcats host DePaul at home on Wednesday and Xavier will go to Georgetown on Wednesday.
