You could not ask for a more exciting Big East Championship game. It took overtime for Villanova to finally fend off Providence as Villanova wins its 3rd Big East tournament championship in the last four years.
The 1st half was a game of runs back and forth between the two teams. Villanova jumped out to a 11-2 lead before Providence came back and tied it at 11. Villanova was lead by Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges the whole game and lead at the half 31-27.
In the second half it looked like Villanova was going to run away with it going up by 12. Kyron Cartwright lead the Friars as they stormed back as he took over the second half. Brunson also continued playing well as the two battled back and forth. Diallo was also an important part of Providence second half surge.
Mikal Bridges took over in OT hitting two 3s as the Wildcats outscored Providence 16-6.
A memorable game as both teams will move forward in March. Providence showed teams across the country they cannot be taken lightly and Villanova will be a 1 seed heading into the tournament. This isn’t the old Big East yet but it is something special to watch.
